Chapter 12
Josie felt much calmer and centered the following day. Max decided, on reflection, that she was too sore and tired to cope with another spanking the previous evening. Instead he’d drawn a bath for her. While she’d soaked her sore tush in the tub he’d cooked them a simple pasta dish, followed by a fruit plate and cheese.
He awoke her early, handing her a mug of tea. He told her she had precisely fifteen minutes before he returned and on his return he expected to find her naked, nose to the wall. She knew he intended to spank her but somehow the thought felt cathartic rather than threatening; their relationship was back on track. She waited calmly for him, having drunk her tea, used the bathroom and cleaned her teeth. When he’d called her over to him she had placed herself over his lap without question. He did not go easy on her and she cried but they had felt like tears of release. His lovemaking afterward had been sweet and hot, binding them together as one again.
Max had to go to the clinic that afternoon. Josie simply vegged out on the couch and watched daytime television whilst eating nuts and drinking soda. This was a practice she rarely indulged in anymore and so it felt extra decadent.
She’d just made a bathroom stop when the doorbell chimed. It was Sandy.
“You moved two doors down? Whatever’s going on?” She stepped into the lobby, yanking off her jacket. Josie turned and led the way back into the sitting area. “Hey, you’re still limping?”
“Sit, and I’ll fill you in. D’you wanna soda first?”
Sandy nodded an affirmative. “You stay put, I’ll fetch it. Rest that poor ankle,” she insisted.
Josie didn’t argue but settled back on the cushions, wincing as her bottom itched and tingled achingly. She shifted about, trying to get comfortable.
“The sodas are in the bottom of the cooler!” she called to Sandy.
“Gotcha!” she yelled back, appearing moments later, swigging from a bottle of diet Coke. “So, you gonna tell me why you moved house?” she asked as she made herself comfortable at the other end of the couch.
“Another flood. Brent reckons the plumbing in 99 is faulty. We agreed to swap houses, so 101 is now our permanent home.” Josie waved her arm airily.
“Wow, what a stroke of luck there was a house available. Sean and I had to really hunt high and low for our first place together and frankly, it was a shit hole.”
“Whereabouts do you live? You are in Corbin’s Bend?”
“Long and boring story but the short version is that while Sean’s overseas I’m staying in digs near the hospital in Denver, but I go back and forth to check our house. Brent keeps an eye on it too. When is Max due home? I’d sure like to meet him.”
“Actually, he should be back soon. Marcus has an elderly patient suffering from severe arthritis and he wanted Max to talk to her about the risks of having anesthetic at her age.
